Saint Lucia has been selected to pilot a Rapid Results Initiative project with oversight by the World Bank-funded Caribbean Growth Forum (CGF).
The Rapid Results Initiative is a participatory process in which a rapid response team is selected and is responsible for delivering anticipated targets within a specific time frame.
Minister with responsibility for Economic Development, Hon. Guy Joseph, said he is pleased that Saint Lucia was chosen to pilot the program.
“I want everybody to understand that we are part of a process; that we can help chart a new course in this part of the region with this project; and that every participant is important to the success of the program. You know governments are usually judged by the first 100 days in office, now we have the real opportunity to put that to the test by trying to accomplish what is set out in there within the hundred days.”
Mr. Joseph said the government of Saint Lucia has agreed on three reform indicator areas that will require implementation support. They include the establishment of a single window for construction permits, improvement in the public transportation system, and developing an engagement plan for working with the Ministry of Education.
“Our education program must be in keeping with the development and growth plans that we have for this economy. And as the Prime Minister has indicated, our aim is to double the GDP of this country in ten years. We all must work together to make this happen.”
The Government of Saint Lucia has pledged its commitment to the full implementation of the reform initiatives.
